Kuma's forefather was not born in Sri Lanka and he was also not born here . As a result , they don't the citizenship to get education , job , housing and voting in the country . Everything that they do , the Sinhalese has the priority .

Sundram is born with a silver spoon in his mouth . All he needs to do is open his hand and he gets money . However , he don't repay his parents with his result , he fools around often and don't do his work on time . He has a neighbour , Kuma , who comes from a poor family but he learns to treasure everything beside him .

His result are always top in the school and his parents don't have to worry about him . Both of them are taking their “ O “ this year but Sundram don't seems to be nervous about it . On the other hand , Kuma has been working very hard just to achieve good result to get into the best University and give his parents a good life .

As the days passes in the blink of an eye , their “ O “ level ended . Sundram got 4B3 and 1B4 and for his Sinhalese B3 . However , Kuma got 3A2 and 2B3 and for his Sinhalese , B3 . Both applied for the same University and waited for their reply .Since then , Kuma face had always been glum . His application was rejected but Sundram's application was taken in . The reason for Kuma's application being rejected was that he was a Indian Tamil and Sundram was a Sinhalese . The only University that Kuma was being taken in was one of the worst University in Sri Lanka and the distance from his house to that University was close to 11km .

Kuma was very unplease with the type of treatment that was given to the Sinhalese . When their forefathers came here before 1970 , they were given equal chances in schooling . There was no University admission criteria so long as your results are good . After 1970s , the admission was not was on merit anymore . Tamil had to score a higher mark then the Sinhalese students in order to secure a position in the University . Whats more , the number of the Sinhalese student was fixed .

Under the help of the India government , they thought that they could return to India in order for their son future . However , their dreams were dashed when the Sri Lankan government didn't fully carry out this agreement .

For the next few years , Kuma worked as an tea boy in a tea plantation , waiting for a chance for him to get a revenge on the Sinhalese government . However , what agitated him more was the resettlement policy . Those Sinhalese peasant from the southwestern area that has no land were to be transferred to the concentrated north of the Tamil area . The piece of land that Kuma was working on were to be given to the Sinhalese farmers to farm . Kuma was the sole breadwinner , his family were to depend on Kuma meagre income to live on . Now , the only income was gone , Kuma was very infuriated and wanted some fairness for him and his fellows Indian mates .

His agony ended in the 1976 when Prabhakaren , the leader of a group called the Liberation Tigers of the Tamil Eelam , LTTE , was setted up . They are recruiting young soldier below 18 to take up arms against the Sri Lankan government to fight for a seperate Tamil homeland in the north and east of Sri Lanka in order to protect the Tamil people from the so-called oppression and discrimination by the Sinhalese . When Kuma heard about it , he found a few of his friends who were also dissatisfied with the treatment they got .They were taught how to hold and fire a gun and defend themselves for their attack with the Halalese . The LTTE population build up rapidly and they trained hard just to wait for a chance to attack the Sinhalese .Finally , the opportunity came at July 1983 where they riot on the streets . It sparked a long armed conflict between government forces and Tamil tigers , but how long is this going to last ?
